The tradition continues. A century after Homer's "The Tent" and Falconer's "Kitchen in the Birthplace of John Howard Payne, East Hampton, L. I." well-known artists still come to work in the township.

Originally the "Home Sweet Home" legend served as a mecca, and if there is a substitute today it would likely be considered to be both the quality of the art community itself, with it opportunities to exchange thoughts with others who create, and also the quality of the natural setting which has gained increasing appreciation through the century.

Originally, too, the character of the light was important to Homer and to Hassam, and to the landscape painters in the half centry between the two. The challenge of the tonal poetry of light ad color is so pervasive here that it still influences many. Even artists not working from nature are affected by the long days of even, unobstructed light which facilitates adjustments in tone and texture.

The range of stylistic directions in this contemporary historical segment, represented here by just a few examples, parallels in its own way the great diversity of art interests found to have come here during the 100-year span.
