Dear Dorothy:

In retrospect my last letter was so rambling & personal that I remember it only with concern. Also it occurred to me that you might find it of value to have a personal statement you could show for record, from one who has known Newman too well & [[strikethrough]] & [[/strikethrough]], to my regret & too long, & who has found him interesting chiefly as a relentless, willful, vengeful & often a horrifying scoundrel,- as an animal is often horrifying...

And it is imperative that he & I be disassociated from every portion of act & mind & motive & feeling. This must be stated.
