[[strikethrough]] Artist. [[/strikethrough]] Daughter of Wisconsin by birth and early education. Both a creative artist and a creative teacher of art. A distinguished painter whose work has won a coveted place in the great art galleries of America. Recipient of a distinctive award when at the time of the New York World's Fair she was chosen one of the twelve most outstanding American women of the past fifty years.

In recognition of her enviable achievements as a painter, and as a tribute to a Wisconsin woman who has triumphed in the difficult field of the fine arts, I present to you, Mr. President, upon recommendation of the Faculty and by vote of the Regents, Georgia O'Keeffe for the honorary degree, Doctor of Letters.
