Dear Mr. Reid:

I am writing you from Chicago instead of Athens - at the last minute our trip had to be postponed.

Apparently, the mural people are looking for an artist whose work is more literal than yours. Your material was returned to us with no comment, so I telephoned the art consultant who did not elaborate beyond saying that "it wouldn't do". Well, we tried.

If you would like us to keep your three paintings for awhile, and see what we can do with them, we would be happy to do so. In the meantime, we shall return your biographical material to you. Thank you for having taken the chance with us. Maybe there will be another time and we will have better luck.

Best wishes,

Sincerely,

Sally H. Fairweather
