Mr. Robert Reid
233 Lafayette Street
New York, New York 10012

Dear Mr. Reid:

The museum of Modern Art is advising The Salvation Army in the selection of artists for their 1970 annual report and traveling exhibition. The report is printed as a supplement to the Sunday New York Times in November. More than a million and a half copies are distributed throughout the country. It describes and illustrates the various community activities of The Salvation Army, such as foster home service, treatment of narcotics addicts, day nurseries and help for unwed mothers.

The report is printed in full color and the exhibition of the actual works reproduced in the report will be shown in public places, instead of on the usual museum circuit, in about 25 cities. Last year the show ended its tour in Japan. Works can be for sale if the artist desires.

Our reason for suggesting your name is to help The Salvation Army find works of high quality. Brigadier Andrew Miller is in charge of the report for the Salvation Army. I have asked Elizabeth Shaw, Department of Public Information, to call you to see when he can meet with you to explain the project more fully and seek your help.

Sincerely,
Walter Bereiss
