Dear Mr. Reid:

One March 24, a paint industry committee met to review all samples of works of American artists in connection with the industry's plan to commission an artist to create a Bicentennial work of art. The committee decided, after carefully examining all samples, that your particular style does not lend itself to the type of project we are envisioning. Accordingly, we are returning today, under separate cover, the samples you sent us.

We are deeply appreciative of your interest in this project and your cooperation in sending us samples of your work. We regret that we cannot work with all of the fine artists who indicated interest.

If, at some future date, we find ourselves involved in a project which would be particularly suited to the use of your work, we will certainly contact you.

Sincerely,
