I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of yours of the 1st inst enclosing your check N: 512 on the Asst. Treasurer at N.Y. for Seven-hundred and thirty nine dollars and forty cents ($739.40) to pay the following claims for arrears of Pay and Bounty.

I have the honor to inform you that I have this day returned, (by Express Co) the blank Letters Received Book sent to me from your office on the 30th inst. Please send me one that is not arranged alphabetically, as I received two or three letters daily from Gen. Balloch or Major Fowler, the "Bs and "Fs" would be filled up before the other letters would have a single entry, if you have no others please send me another Letters sent Book. and I will use it. Please answer without delay as the records of this Office have to be copied from July 1st 1867.
