Summary, Genl report of Genl. C. B Fisk, Oct 6/65

Reports having brought the instructions of the Bureau for the Knowledge of thousands white and black, who before had but vague notions of its existence and objects. An earnest desire on part of majority of the people that our agencies be extended. Has devoted himself to breaking up Freedmens Camps. Refugee House, and Hospitals. Intends to make a clean sweep of them before winter. Has but one now, Camp Nelson, Ky. Withdrawal of transportation faculties delayed this, but hopes to break up this by 1st previous. The Nashville Memphis, President - Island, Clarksville, Sevier, Paducah, Columbus, Gallatin, Hendersonville, Murfreesboro, Pulaski, Tunnel-Hill, and Chattanooga Camps, homes and Hospitals are all closed. Majority of dependents now in good homes, & at work for good wages Exodus from Cities & towns has been large. Hopes that Christmas will find few unemployed in his District. Freedmen are becoming better advised as to their new relations, and his constant effort is to make them so have faith in their ability to "paddle their own canoes." Withdrawal of rations causes the idle to work or starve. County & municipal authorities compelled to nurse their sick, care for the poor, and bury their dead.
