I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of Oct. 31st. from Jacksonville, Fla. A copy of S.F.O. No 3. which you request, has already been forwarded to you at Washington.

I enclose a note for the General which was directed to him at Charleston, post-marked "Savannah," and which I opened, as it seemed to relate to public business. The remark that there is no one at Savannah "representing" me is a mistake. My assistant Mr. Grey occupies a desk in Col Sickles' office and may be communicated with at any time.

I received a letter from the Messrs. Nichols the other day asking me if they could be put in immediate possession of "Col" Pritchard's plantations on Skidaway Island which were set apart by Gen. Sherman's Order and
