0478 K39 [[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]] At a meeting of the planters of Edisto Island held at Charleston So. Ca. on the 15th of Nov. 1865 the following resolutions were adopted. Resolved, that we, the Planters of Edisto Island have seen General Howard's order for the restoration of the lands on Edisto Island and hereby take occasion to express over willingness to comply with the same; Resolved, that we are willing and that it is our intention to deal justly and generously with the Freedmen with whom we may contract and to do all in our power to promote their physical welfare and moral improvement and to labor to give the greatest success to the system of Free Labor which has been inaugurated Wm. M Murray Chairman
