would get them out for five dollars apiece - i.e. a family. Mr Pratt afterwards met these men and had a kind of draft of a petition which he read to them the contents of which none of the men spoken to seem to have recollection - nor to whom it was adressed.
They recollect he told them this paper would be handed to Gene Hunt to sign and then sent to Washington and that their families then would soon be brought to them under military escort. He (Pratt) collected from the following named men the amount of money set opposite each name.
