December 12th 1865

At a large and enthusiastic Mass Meeting of colored of this County, held in a private house, to take into consideration what we thought best to do. We was without protection. We was yet oppressed by our former oppressors none to show justice. After which Mr James W. Daniels called the meeting to order. Mr J.H. Laws chosen Secretary of meeting to take the President's (chair) of the meeting on this night.
We have earned this year, we have closed our crops: the owners has concealed them in, then Prosecution has decided to turn us off with nothing; also has decided, if we will not bind ourselves to them by the year, the ensuing year, they will not let us stay on the lands.
We Resolved that we decide to forward the account of the Meeting to the Judge of Freedmen's Bureau in the City of Washington, to ask your most respectful Honor to send us some protection; to give to us that which is right and just before God, and the citizen world 
Resolved; That we are willing to live on whatever
