The arrest of these men by the Police was not only a violation of their rights as Citizens, but a violation of law, and subversive of every principle of justice. 
There can be no reason why the Freedmen may not hold an election, and the result of the Poll can be carried by their agents where ever they may choose to send it, and any attempt to restrict or prevent them, is simply an infringment of their rights and priveleges.
