Colonel:
Your letter of the 25th ultimo in relation to the attack made by the Northern papers upon General Fullerton for his administration of affairs here, and that censure was in some degree extended to myself. Several Gentlemen of well known Abolition proclivities, requested permission from me to reply to an article in the New York Tribune, but I declined to give my consent, thinking that it is always better to leave for time and truth the vindication of one's Official acts.
I think that General Fullerton arrived here at an unfortunate time when the public mind was in greater ferment than it has been before or
