AN ACT
To provide for and regulate Labor Contracts for Agricultural pursuits.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate
2 and House of Representatives of the State of 
3 Louisiana in General Assembly convened,
4 That all persons engaged as laborers in
5 agricultural pursuits shall be required,
6 during the first ten days of the month of
7 January of each year, to make contracts
8 for labor for the then ensuing year, or
9 for the year next ensuing the termination
10 of their present contract. All contracts
11 for labor for agricultural purposes shall
12 be made in writing, signed by the em-
13 ployer, and shall be made in the presence 
14 of a Justice of the Peace and two disin-
15 terested witnesses, in whose presence the
16 contract shall be read to the laborers,

17 and, when assented to and signed by the
18 latter, shall be considered as binding for
19 the time prescribed.

Sec. 2. Be it further enacted, &c., That
2 every laborer shall have full and perfect
3 liberty to choose his employer, but, when
4 once chosen, he shall not be allowed to 
5 leave his place of employment until the ful-
6 filment of his contract, unless by consent
7 of his employer, or on account of harsh
8 treatment, or breach of contract on the
9 part of the employer; and if they do so
