Forwards letter of Capt Wm Stone 7th Regt V.R.C. who reports himself for assignment to duty in Freedmans Bureau in obedience to instructions contained in Special Order No 18, dated War Dept A.G.O. Jany 13th 1866
States that Capt Stone is now performing important duties connected with the closing up of the business relating to P.M.G's Dept E.D. Penn and that his services could not be dispensed with at present without detriment to the service, but it is thought that the business can soon be brought into a condition to allow his being relieved, and requests that he be not assigned to other duty before the 1st prox.

Respectfully forwarded to Major Genl O.O. Howard Commissioner of Bureau of Freedmen &c {through Pro. Mar. Genl)
Bt Major Stone is now performing important duties connected with the closing up of the business relating to the Pro. Mar. Genl's Department of this office and in attending to the reduction of expenses connected with the office generally.
He is also a valuable assistant in the disbanding of volunteer organizations reporting to this office under the provisions of General Orders No 94 A.G.O. Series of 1865.
His services could not be dispensed with at present without detriment to the service, but it is thought that the business can soon be brought into a condition to allow his being

relieved. In view of the foregoing facts it is respectfully requested that he be not assigned to other duty before the 1st proximo.
