Col Woodhull
Dr Sir:
Under the new law respecting the Freedmen's Bureau is there no place in which you can employ me. I am doing nothing, waiting orders as Prof in the Navy on a miserable pay far below my expenses. I have thought of two places - one the charge of Freedmen's Affairs in Md & Del - the other to some post in the cotton states where I could open a plantation. I write without any detailed knowledge of the provisions of the bill, simply to make known my wants, which are proving to a friend's.
Respectfully &c
Henry H Lockwood
