you would place the matter before the proper authorities and request that no action should be taken untill the matter is fully investigated. I would suggest that the Government send some one down here to investigate in whom they could rely, not a man that wants office we want a conscientious officer who will see that justice is done to the people. Those reports are all started by persons who want office at the expense of their nieghbors. I know that you are well enough acquainted with me to vouch that I would not give incouragement to any thing like here are charged. with you are well aware how I treat slaves & in conclusion I assure you I have seen no disposition on the part of any one to abuse impose or interfere with coloured persons & I also can say the latter have behaved very becoming more so than could be expected in their new position.
