I see by the papers that you have charge of the Freedmen's Department.

Perhaps you may think it strange, but if you can give me a good berth, I should like to come out there this winter to teach, or to write.

I have been in the habit of teaching, constantly, for winters, till within 3 years.

You know something of my capabilities, as you will remember coming to scool to me in 1835.

My health is good, and for the winter season, I should be pleased to come out there, or perhaps, for a longer time.
