under treatment has ranged from twenty five (25) to thirty eight (38). The same surgeon has attended the Freedmen's Orphan Asylum, prescribing for those that were not confined to bed for any considerable length of time and sending those that were to hospital. As the civil authorities of the City have resumed the functions of office I cannot see that the Bureau is under obligations to care for the city paupers, and as the inmates of the Refugees' Hospital are all of that class, I would recommend that said hospital be discontinued.
All reports required by the Chief Med. Officer of the Bureau have been forwarded to him, from the 1st of June. 
In conclusion, I would say that I have no reason to be dissatisfied with the success of my work and for that measure of success I am largely indebted to the interest taken in it by the Assistant Commissioner and his able assistance, which in our case has been denied. Being limited in our resources we have sought to make our own outlays accomplish the greatest good to the greatest number.
