The General Commanding the Department has arrested the Sheriff the Magistrate, and the complainant, Mr Brown; he does it on his own responsibility, as I asked for nothing but the release of Captain Peck, and his restoration to his duties.

It may be proper to state here that the Captain denied the authority of the Sheriff to arrest and confine him, and that the Sheriff obtained the services of a company of Militia to go after night and assist him in making the arrest.

I have given a full report about this matter that false impressions may not be made at Washington by exaggerated stories that may have reached there.
