reflects no credit on the person laying the same out. The buildings are located on a flat near the creek and in a very unhealthy place. No regularity of streets, and the place is not very clean. The Houses or huts are very poor, open an small, no chimneys as a general thing, and poor roofs to them. Twice the inmates occupy the houses that should, and the domestic habits of the people in the colony tend largely to create disease. There is only one thing in favor of the Colony and that is water, which they will have plenty of in the coming spring. The colony is located on land not held by the Bureau and the owner of the same is anxious to have control of it, so as to fence it in for next season for cultivation. I can see no sensible reason why the colony was located where it is. There is beautiful grounds to the right and rear of it, about a quarter of a mile distant that would be far better. But there is no land within one mile from which timber can be obtained to supply the wants of the Freedmen this Winter and without there is a change soon, the old people will suffer from cold and exposure. Transportation is limited - the Quarter Master at that Post has only four trains, and it takes all his time with his teams to supply the Hospital
