Many of the Rebels are still returning home cursing the yankees for the destruction which war necessarily brings. we had such on the Boat with us. They are "coerced" not subdued. 

From Yazoo City, a smart little town, sunk in the side of the bluff, we proceeded on horseback to Silver Creek, about 20 miles from the "City" where we saw Col. J. R. Hall, Sub-Commissioner for the western part of the country. The affairs of his office appear to have been well managed and to have secured the confidence of both Planters and freedmen.
