One old man came in complaining that his wifes life was threatened for informing of cotton stealing. He was assured of protection, and sent back with a letter to his employer demanding good treatment. A boy came in complaining of abuse from his employer, and was sent back in like manner.

We started out on Friday on another trip to Tchula Lake, Honey Island and across the Yazoo.

Six miles from the city we talked with Mrs Mouton's people who were dissatisfied with their treatment, not being clothed or fed sufficiently. They got no other wages. In this neighborhood this seems to be not uncommon, as we saw others who talked like this.

Subsistence and clothing are the sum of
