Robert James having been sworn says

I have been living at Parson James about 23 miles from Yazoo City
I was putting up fense and Mr. James come out and tried to whip me he struck me one lick and I took the stick from him and threw it up in a tree and then he tried to choke me and he got his finger in my mouth and I bit it a little. He said he can hire a negro shot without much expense to him. That they have their own laws now and Provost Marshalls has nothing to do with it now.  That they could do as they pleased about the darkeys.
