I exceedingly regret the shortness of your stay in our City The Friends & indeed the community are becoming impatient in regard to the Academy seeing the time is becoming short in which to get ready for the school in the Fall

I had & still have implicit confidence in your promise to restore the Building and premises to the Trustees & to assist personally and officially in its restoration I am still urged & that too by those who were the most influential union men during the War - (I hope all are union now) to make application to Washington This I am persuaded cannot be done without strife - & both duty & interest call upon me to avoid all strife and after my last interview with you I fear that this course
