UNITED MIGRANTS FOR OPPORTUNITY, INC.

Programs For 1974

United Migrants For Opportunity, Inc. (U.M.O.I.) is a private non-profit corporation funded primarily by the Migrant Division of the Office Of Economic Opportunity (O.E.O) Title IIIB of the Economic Opportunity Act.

U.M.O.I. is governed by a Board of Directors.  The Board membership consists of:

1. State agency representatives.
2. Elected representatives from 7 Area Advisory Council consisting primarily of migrants and recent ex-migrants.
3. At-large members representing agencies, groups, institutions, and organizations concerned with the need of migrants and seasonal agricultural workers.

U.M.O.I. receives federal funds on an annual basis to provide services to migrant and seasonal agricultural workers and their families.

All applicants for U.M.O.I. services must meet the following O.E.O. definition in order to be eligible for services:

Migrant and seasonally employed agricultural families are defined as those individuals who during the one year preceding their application for services or activities:

1. Received at least 50% of their earned income as agricultural employees;
2. Been only employed on a seasonal basis during the last calendar year;
3. Have incomes below the poverty level as established by O.E.O. guidelines.

Contained in this report is information on the various programs available through U.M.O.I. from April 1, 1974 through March 31, 1975 with regard to services provided, specific eligibility criteria, and referral procedures.
