PROGRAMS

1) AREA COORDINATION SERVICES

This program is responsible for the implementation and coordination of agency programs in each of the 7 major areas of farmworker concentration.  The area offices are the focal point of all U.M.O.I outreach, program implementation, and service delivery activities.  Specific program activities and areas of responsibility include:

a.  On-going communication and liaison with Area Advisory Councils.
b.  Supervision and coordination of all summer outreach, referral, and recruitment activities.
c.  Coordination of U.M.O.I. programs with state agency programs to provide maximum service to the farmworker and avoid duplication.
d.  Provide job placement and related relocation activities.
e.  Conduct follow-up program participants in order to determine project success.
f.  Provide emergency housing during the harvest season and finding immediate housing for relocating families.
g.  Recruitment of participants for U.M.O.I. programs such as Skills Center Training, Head Start, and Migrant Scholarships.
h.  Economically and efficiently utilizing staff time to provide maximum benefit to migrants.

2) COLLEGE STUDENT SUMMER OUTREACH PROGRAM

This program will utilize college students to assist in providing the variety of services required by migrants and their families during the harvest season.  The overall objective of the program is to increase the quantity and quality of services available to migrants by:

A.  Providing migrants with accurate information on the types of services available.
B.  Referral and transportation of migrants to services.
C.  Providing translation assistance.
D.  Performing follow-up to evaluate the services received by migrants.
E.  Distributing emergency food funds to eligible and needy migrants families.
F.  Providing migrants with information on the various programs available through U.M.O.I.

Forty-five predominately bi-lingual college students, working under the supervision of the seven U.M.O.I. area officers shall provide migrants with the above indicated services.  The majority of the students employed for this program shall be those individuals who are currently participating in the Migrant Scholarship Program.

3) MIGRANT AREA ADVISORY COUNCIL

Seven area advisory council consisting of migrants and recent ex-migrants shall be established.  Each council will have two voting representation slots on the U.M.O.I. board, with the nominating committee of the board having final approval of the representative from each area council.
