program is to increase target group participation in U.M.O.I.'s efforts to assist migrants and to provide a basis for such activities as increased migrant community organization and to serve as the basis for the development of area private non-profit housing corporations.

4) MIGRANT COLLEGE ENTRY/TUITION SUPPORT PROGRAM

The program is a cooperative effort to provide higher educational opportunities for migrant young adults to attend various colleges and universities in Michigan. This opportunity is jointly sponsored by the participating colleges and U.M.O.I.

Students selected for the program will receive the following services:

A. Assistance with the application process.
B. Financial assistance covering the cost of tuition, book, room, board, and personal expenses. The amount of assistance will vary with the cost at each school.
C. Married students will receive a supplemental grant of at least $15,000 per month for each dependent to cover their additional costs. 
D. Assistance with travel to their homes during Christmas vacation.
E. Assistance in securing summer employment with either U.M.O.I. or other agencies providing services to migrants during the harvest season.

A total of 128 migrant students are currently attending college in Michigan under this program will receive continued support and a minimum of 70 new students shall start school during the Fall of 1974. A minimum of 8 schools will be participating. They are:

University of Michigan
Central Michigan University
Delta College
Grand Valley College
Western Michigan University
Saginaw Valley College
Ferris State College
Michigan State University

In order to be eligible for this program a student must meet the previously stated definition of a migrant and possess either a high school diploma or G.E.D.

Basis of Selection

It is expected that there will not be enough scholarships to provide opportunities for every eligible student. Four factors shall be considered in determining who is selected. It is to be emphasized that the purpose of the program is to provide college opportunities to students who have both the potential and the need. Preference will be given to individuals who do not have other opportunities due to not being admitted or a lack of funds.
