Mexico's Problem

Mexico has an illegal alien problem, which is a rather bizarre turn of events for the country that has thousands of its citizens returned annually from the United States for illegal entry.

Coffee growers in the southeastern state of Chiapas, it is reported, have been importing 10,000 Guatemalans for their Fall harvest.

These workers were reportedly paying about $4 out of their meager wages for passage across the Mexico-Guatemalan border--presumably in bribes for border officials.

The 10,000 Guatemalans illegally imported into Mexico are about the same number of Mexican nationals returned from Texas last year.

Congress needs to take a closer look at the problem because the U.S. Immigration Service needs money to combat illegal entries.

Most of all, closer cooperation with the Mexican government is needed.
