Wishes to know what order was issued as to the burning of the bridge opposite Buckeytown. | Jany 6th 1866. Respectfully. The order to destroy the wagon bridge across the Monocacy River just below the Rail Road Bridge was given by Genl Wallace in person and when the Engineer Officer in charge of the work of executing that order inquired whether the bridge should be cut away and pushed into the stream or burned Genl Wallace told him to fire it which was done under a short skirmish. If its bridge at Buckeystown was destroyed by our forces and if Buckeytown is situated some distance from the Rail Road Bridge it must have been destroyed by the Cavalry under General instructions to do something to impede the advance of the enemy. I dont remember of having given orders to destroy the bridge in question MW AAG |
