the castle of Angers [[strikethrough]] [nearly] has lost all character, the towers having been partially taken down by Henry II. Sight is still imposing however from bridge, and from below. In interior court stands a chateau that looks as though it had sprung up like a mushroom. The old castle is built entirely of slate, as all old masonry of this neighborhood.
