The old Miser Charlie Ruh of Union Hill had a glass of that beer and his miserly face turned pleasanter and softer as he dipped his nose into the foam. The Grill room has disappeared and small Tables are placed instead of the former long dining bars. With Prof Hirth, Prof Heilsen, Dr. Valentines I share the Captains Table.

The fog horn is blowing. But I had a royal nap. Am spending most of my time in my cabin letting my arms and legs dangle and my brain too and that's fine.

Now there are other steamers replying.

Evenings I met a Professor from New Have, Bauer I think is his name, and his sweet though elderly sister, a good New England woman with who I talked for an hour or so, and the enjoyment was mutual, I hope.

I am practicing how to stay in bed after 6 A.M. Later on I went on deck and made a cursory inspection. Found blinds drawn all 'round and properly so, it wasn't the sun either that made them desirable; found that the ladies had changed their complesions [[complexions]].
