here we all are - one man shows - of what! I should know - I counted the other day - I have had 16 one man shows - some important - all a mistake. I want to paint in peace now. This business of showing. And what about us painters in this generation. We have tried everything, pick up this - pick up that - drop them flat - children with toys - we don't even know how to live. And look at the old masters! Look at them - & then look at us! Do you think we will be remembered - certainly not - little streets - little apples - little mechanics - ! it is all wrong. The fine old masters had poetry - & where in our art is there poetry - epic poems! But we are like fleas. We must start all over again, & work - Start all over again.
