Description of Study:

The Methodology and Philosophy of African American [[strikethrough]] Painters and Sculptors from 1935-Present [[/strikethrough]] ARTISTS/DIALOGUES WITH CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

by Vincent Smith

During the years that I conducted "Vincent Smith Dialogues with Contemporary Artists" (October 8, 1986 to June 1988) on WBAI FM Radio 99.5, NYC, I interviewed over 55 artists. These interviews resulted in more than 20 hours of audio tape, which documents conversations with such notable artists as Romare Bearden, Emilio Cruz, Mel Edwards, David Driskell and Jacob Lawrence. As did the drummer Arthur Taylor in his book Notes and Tones, in which he interviewed his peers Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey and Dizzy Gillespie, my proposed book The Methodology and Philosophy of African American [[strikethrough]] Painters [[/strikethrough]] Artists/Dialogues with Contemporary Artists will include the interviews transcribed from the audio tapes, as well as contextual, historical, biographical and cultural documentation, providing the reader with an insight into the life and work of African American artists.

These are some of the factors
