Slide The Widow Kollwitz BNA

The first World War was personally tragic to Kaethe Kollwitz in the death of her son & her work took on an even starker power. You see it in this woodcut of The Widow from the War series. Kaethe Kollwitz has always been passionately articulate for the people & she was one of the creative admirations of the days of the Weimar Republic. She was one of the artists banned by the National Socialists but she continued to live in Germany. Her age & her world reputation seem to have spared her some of the persecutions. There has been no report of her death.
