Re: Damaged Ad Reinhardt Painting November 29, 1956

Dear Miss Parsons:

In connection with our telephone conversation, I wish to advise that we have informed the insurance company concerning the loss of the Ad Reinhardt painting which obviously occurred in transit. We have not yet forwarded Mr. Reinhardt's estimate because of the fact that he includes fare in his estimate and it is our belief that the company might take exception to including his fare. We therefore have enclosed a revised type of specimen letter which Mr. Reinhardt should send to you.

You will recall that the insurance company desires in addition to Mr. Reinhardt's letter the following additional documents:

1-Certifid bill or invoice
2-Original bill of lading
3-Original freight bill
4-A copy of the claim against the carrier; in this case Berkeley Movers
5-Berkeley Movers reply
6-Consignees (Mr. George Hamilton) affidavit concerning the condition of the painting upon its arrival.

These documents are required because the painting was obviously damaged in transit and the insurance carrier may wish to subrogate against them after they have settled this loss.

Your prompt attention to these matters will insure early settlement of your claim.

Very truly yours,

Harvey Eigenfeld
