Mr. Edward B. Henning
Curator of Contemporary Art
The Cleveland Museum of Art
11150 East Boulevard
Cleveland 6, Ohio

Dear Mr. Henning:

A note re: the Cornell box. I put the screws only halfway into the lid so as not to wear out their anchorage. If you decide to keep the box, unscrew the top and empty the yellow sand contained in the small plastic box onto floor of box. It is supposed to spill one way or the other when box is tilted (as Cornell does when he shows them). Screws may then be fastened all the way in.

I hope that you are feeling better. I was most pleased with my detour to Cleveland in spite of bad weather that almost sent us to another city. The pictures that linger most with me are Manet's Sailboats, a fine Lawrence and Reynolds' wonderful Jemima Yorke and her sister. Also a Cuyp and the Zurbaran. This is not to denigrate the Chinese pots!

Sincerely,

Robert J. Schoelkopf Jr.
