Mr. S. Lane Faison, Jr.
Director
Williams College Museum of Art
Lawrence Hall
Williamstown, Massachusetts

Dear Mr. Faison:

Here are Mr. Cornell's remarks about the inspiration for the collage that Williams College purchased.

This statement is really for your eyes, and I must call your attention to Mr. Cornell's injunction that this is not to be used or quotes in any publication. It may be used only a [[strikethrough]] s [[/strikethrough]] t second hand as explanatory matter.

The most recent issue of Art Forum has what may be the most factual article on Cornell yet published. He regards it as a violation of privacy, since the young lady who wrote the article once worked for him.

Also, one of the best appreciations of Cornell's work, dealing with the content of the boxes is to be found in Art and Literature, # 8 (a recent issue).

Regards,

Robert Schoelkopf
