New York State Exposition Syracuse, N. Y. 13209 May 14, 1966 Harold L. Creal, Director Helen B. Vandervort, Director, Art and Home Center Mr. Robert Schoelkopf 825 Madison Avenue New York, New York Dear Mr. Schoelkopf: The New York State Council on the Arts has asked me to organize a special loan exhibition titled 125 Years of New York Painting and Sculpture in celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the New York State Fair to be shown for one week, from August 30th through September 5th, 1966. The survey will highlight New York State painting and sculpture from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. The artists to be represented will be those who have been identified with New York State on the basis of outstanding creative achievement during their residency in the State. I would like very much to include a work by Joseph Cornell in the exhibition. However, I am not sure whether or not he would be eligible on the basis of residency and wonder if you can let me know. Perhaps you could send me his biographical data. And in the event that he does qualify, could you send me several photographs of his work which you feel would be representative? Your help would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Sincerely yours, Joseph S. Trovato Joseph S. Trovato OK 1872 JST: ro
