Dear Mr. Schoelkopf:

I am sorry I have been so long in replying to your letter of February 6, I have been out of the state.

Indeed I am disappointed that Mr. Cornell is not at this moment in a mood to sell "Mica Magritte II". I can understand his fondness for it and confess that I share his feelings.

Regarding the collage "Where Does the Sun Go at Night", I have the unfortunate problem of preferring the other. I would not mind having them both but for some reason or other I have some kind of emotional hang-up about having something that to me is somewhat less than my preferance.

If I can do so without putting you in an embarrassing position, however, I will trust your judgment and will not be upset if your judgment is wrong, to wit: I will acquire the latter collage if, (1) you will assist me in what matters you can toward the acquisition of the other, and (2) that Mr. Cornell might look more favorably on disposing of the "Mica Magritte II" if I were prepared to acquire both.

The Cornell showing in Pasadena was magnificent and if Mr. Cornell does look kindly upon my request he would be making a loyal admirer happy.

Sincerely,
Edwin Janss Jr
