charming afternoon, and of course delighted to see Achelis and König's, we walked back to Bonn, which took about two hours and a half, it was a nice walk but rather warm it is always sure to be warm when we are here in Germany.

We bought a few books yesterday and the one french book which the Schlesingers recommended. "Pêcheur d'Ilsande," par Pierre Loti of course I have not had time to look at it as yet, we are going to a china store and I shall try to get a "biersiedl" for a friend who asked me to do so, I hope to be successful, I shall also get a sketching stool which I think very necessary, only it


must be small enough and I hope to find one here.

Amsterdam and Rotterdam were very interesting, we visited Delft where the Prince of Orange was killed in his castle, "The Hague" and Schevenigen which seems like any other sea resort, it was very pretty - we went to these places from Rotterdam where mama rested as the nights trip there had not agreed with her, as it might have done. Very small cabins no larger than a nut and for four persons, but we had two more berths which was a little better, well it was quite rough but then we did not mind it at all and we landed
