Dear Edward,

I am just as slow as ever in writing - Now you are almost gone a week- Lucy and Mrs Victor left too, and we are in all our glory alone. We had some very warm days, a rain storm and now cloudy, I have ridden the horse early before breakfast and he went very nicely, better than he has done here, I am very glad he is coming to his senses. Today I wanted to sketch and of course it was not the day for it, so Mary and I called on the Mays and picked blueberries. The dogs are getting fat. I told told G- to beware & keep them thin.

I may ride this afternoon with one of the Miss Pumpellys
