Dear Edward,

How very good of you to send us a paddle, we thank you heartily for the same and hope to have great fun with [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] it.

We are at present here in solitary grandeur, and the weather has not settled yet, which is maddening, I shall give it one weeks' time yet and then I shall get impatient - we tried one horse, which goes just enough for what we want it, shall try. Gowry's next week it looks very cunning. The dog has recovered and is frisking about - Charlotte left yesterday too, - hope to see her off and and on expect to go bathing with Clara and hope she will turn up as arranged - Gretchen had a letter from Mr. K. who seemed to have enjoyed his vacation and also finds his eyes improving which is very nice-  Heard from Anita who is enjoying
