Dear Dodo,

Your letter encl'g check for $40.- as a birthday present to me & Ethel reached me yesterday. Thank you very much for both of us, besides which Ethel will write herself. We intend to use it to buy some necessary new shades for our City house. Ethel wrote to the man in Stonington asking if he would exchange the red rugs for brown ones but has not yet heard from him. If he cannot she will use the red ones.

Speaking of city houses, the Watzens have just rented theirs for three years, so they will spend more time in Greenwich.
