The U.S. Steel Co. common will probably pass its next dividend as the steel business is very bad, and it will no doubt keep up paying on the preferred. As to the R.R's, there may possibly be some temporary reductions if business does not improve in NY Central & Pa. RR., but that is guesswork; also whether they will be the only ones. The only thing to do therefore is to be careful, as I said before.

Anna Dreir has been sending the German White Papers to a number of our friends whom she met here - perhaps you got one also. If you have none, I can send you one.

To-day Geo. Degreed lunched with me. Excepting that we met by chance a couple of weeks ago, I had not seen him in years. He is just the same. Eleven of his cousins are at the front. His father recently celebrated his 80th birthday.

The children are all well & very happy with our new dog. The Cranfords had an airdale pup which made one too many (they had 3 dogs) so they gave it to us. Its name is Taffy, not quite a year old & very large, much bigger than Carl who you know died. You probably heard of his death from wounds rec'd in a fight with wild dogs we think.

Goodbye for the present. I will write again soon. Remember me to Kate.

With love,
your bro.,
Edw.
