SHELBURNE,
VERMONT.

Dear -

I am crazy to get back to Newport-! The minutes seem like hours, the hours like centuries. There is no use my trying to enjoy myself. I can't. This morning I played golf to while away the weary hours, but whats the use, there is only one thing

My dear - I want to speak to you quite directly now. I read somewhere in a book once upon a time that people should never marry unless they had the same tastes - That finished it for us! I am sorry, as I rather liked the idea of spending the rest of my life with you - but then - I always believe what I see in books and it said the result was terrible if people ever disagreed before marriage. Of course then we are no longer engaged. Thanking you for the pleasure you gave me as my fiancé [[?]] as in [[?]] G V
