As a painter my work has depended for a long time on input from many cultures. It is hard to put into words, especially to describe the process of this influence crossing from a literal to what on e may call a spiritual response.I have no specific plans because I think it is wiser to let things happen. It is often a pleasant experience to see an influence emerge unexpectedly than to force an image or idea into ones work.My plan is to establish a studio, perhaps in Delhi, and travel from there
For decades I gave wanted to see the paintings and sculptures of Ajanta, Mahamallapurah, Elephanta, and Ellura
A brief trip to India in 1989 exposed me to work, in the National gallery in Delhi that was much different from that which I have seen in the United States.
As someone always interested in archaeological sites I fell totally in love with Fatiphur Sikri and it has both haunted me and whetted my appetite for more. I also have a particular interest in architecture and it would seem that the temples of the south such as Ajanta, Mahamallapurah, Elephanta, would more than cover all related interests.

I expect that the major part of my stay in India will be
My devoted to travelling to various sites such as Ajanta, Mahamallapurah, Elephanta, etc.
Obviously one can absorb only so much at a time before eye fatigue sets in. My experience in Europe, especially in Italy showed that three weeks was optimum for travel. Settling in Florence for three months provided both a place for painting and a base for short travels. Before my Fullbright to France I traveled for three months, which included a month stay in Delphi, from which I took trips top Crete and the Pelloponessus. I was able to paint in Delphi and did a few very small works during subsequent travel towards France. More recently I have confined my 'tourist' period to photography and perhaps watercolors. Painting takes place in studio. There is no way to estimate the effect an extensive trip to India can have. Previous experience, especially in Greece has shown me that, except for obvious and literal results, a deeper 'inspiration' can take place much later and last far beyond the scope of one's original contact. As one can see from my resume I have beend a visiting artist for almost 30 years and have
