The American Aid Society of Paris is a connecting link between those Americans in France who because of illness, destitution, unemployment, or family disintegration need and deserve help and those who are able and willing to give this help. This connecting link consists of social service, and its purpose is not only to distribute the funds entrusted to it for relief purposes -- since material relief may be the least of the needs of an applicant for help -- but by accurate knowledge of the circumstances od each problem presented and by humane consideration of personal weakness and peculiarities to safeguard individuals from falling into dependency. At the same time it uses the results of its investigations to protect those who give from fraudulent appeals and to prevent them from duplicating the help they give. In this way the Aid Society represents preventive as well as remedial charity, and where actual relief is needed attempts to change spasmodic giving into systematic constructive relief, helping others in such a way that they may learn to help themselves.
By contributing to the Society you insure yourself against unwise giving and your countrymen in France against distress and destitution.
The accounts of the American Aid Society of Paris are audited annually by Hasking & Sells, chartered accountants, and their report may be consulted by all members at the Headquarters -- of the Society, 10, rue de l'Élysée, Paris.
