Having no funds to pay for my transportation to the United States, I applied to the American Aid Society of Paris for assistance, and they furnished me passage on the "S.S. Westernland" Red Star Liner, sailing from Hâvre August 11th, 1932.  at cost of ....

also railroad ticket to Hâvre.

and the American Legion (Commander Dunning) promised the Aid Society he would pay for the above transportation.
However I promise to reimburse the Aid Society of any loan made me.
